BINGLER, Donald - Passed peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2009 in his 67th year. Don, loving husband of 43 years to Catherine (Howell). Dear father of Jayne (husband James) and Trevor (wife Sarah). Cherished Papa of Jack and Sam and Thomas and William. Dear brother of Anne (Hellebrandt). Loving uncle of Debra (Anissimoff). Funeral Service has taken place on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Jerrett Funeral Home, North York.
When John McIntyre alerted me to this death notice in the Toronto Star, my mind went back to the first time I met Don. It was back in the early ‘60’s before I had even heard of YMASC. I was just starting sales of cold type to the printers, a new concept at the time. Don was one of the many people I called on. Don was rather a quiet individual in those days, not as rambunctious as most of the fellow ad clubbers were in those days. He was the production manager at M & S Printing, down at Spadina and King Street. This was in the days before he graduated into sales and ultimately joining our organization, at the urging of his boss, a former member.
We lost touch for about 30 years until I acquired a paint store in Scarborough just a few blocks from the home Don and Cathy owned since the days he was a member of YMASC. Unfortunately, Don’s phone number was only 1 digit different than my phone number at the store! Invariably he would get many of the phone calls that were directed to my store. Don used to come into the store for his painting needs and after much urging, year after year, I finally managed to get Don out to one of our golf tournaments. After that he became a regular as the tournaments evolved into our annual Christmas luncheon. I missed him this year at the luncheon. Now I know why.
